Our Purpose
The purpose of the St. Anthony Village Sports Boosters (SAVSB) shall be to provide and support a well-rounded program of athletic and community activities and thereby enhance the physical and mental development of our youth. The program works with school and city representatives in our common athletic endeavors, and encourages the interest, support, and participation of our residents in our programs.
Area of Service
The area of service of the SAVSB will be the same as the residents or enrolled students in the geographic boundaries of the St. Anthony/New Brighton Independent School District 282. Players not residing in or enrolled in schools within the district boundaries may participate in SAVSB programs only if needed to fill out a team roster.
St. Anthony Baseball
St. Anthony Sports Boosters Baseball has been a tradition since 1967! Sports Boosters is an all volunteer organization. St. Anthony has a great baseball tradition - our high school team won the 2006 and 2008 State Championship and they had the Minnesota “Coach of the Year” and Minnesota “Player of the Year” for class “AA”. Our 3rd and 4th grade in house team won the State Tournament in 2007 and the 14U team won a “AAA” State Tournament in 2007 as well.
The Booster Baseball program is highly dependent on parent volunteers that coach and assist on the teams. Parent involvement and support of the coaches is also extremely important to the development and success of our players. We need all parents to emphasize the need to work on the fundamentals, to work hard at practice, to be good sports and to be good team mates. Parents set the example that kids will follow – please keep your standards high! With your help and support, we can assure that our baseball program is one of the best in Minnesota.
3rd and 4th Grade
Third and fourth graders play in an in-house league, the North Suburban League. The league web site is http://www.geocities.com/ibl_baseball/ and they have league rules and links to league standings on the web site. There have been between 4 – 6 St. Anthony teams and 3 - 5 New Brighton teams in the league. A 16 game schedule is played and a tournament is held at the end of the season. In the past, games have been held on Tuesday and Thursday to accommodate kids that want to play soccer. There are 1-2 games a week and 1-2 practices a week. We will try and limit the number of players on a team to 12 – 13. This is dependent on the number of coaches that sign up to help.
Teams are created through a draft. Teams are allowed to have a maximum of 2 coaches and their kids on a team for draft purposes. This is governed by St. Anthony Sports Booster’s rules.
5th through 8th Grades
Both in-house and travel programs are provided for 5th through 8th grades – if we have enough players sign up. Travel teams for these grades are based on tryout scores if more than 12 players sign up. Tryout evaluations will be held.
